Dear Reader,
Tonight I would like a few minutes to tackle the topic of addiction, in the easiest and simplest way!!
If you've felt or seen addiction, you know it can be no laughing matter, but what if I told you.. there was a cure??
As all bedtime stories, I want to give you something to really think about, it's not my job to help you sleep ha ha.. they are all true, to the best of my ability.. and since the last one was more creepy, tonight, I want learning to be more fun!!
So let's jump right in..
Tonight's Story is Rat Park!
So for all you curious minds, Rat Park, refers to a scientific experiment done by Harvard or Yale I believe, on addiction.
For the study, they found a cage, much like a prison, with a long hallway, and beds on each side.. and to make the study simple, they just put two choices for water at the end of the hall..
On the left, is regular tap water.. like you might drink or find in bottled water..
On the right however, they put a powerful drug, LSD I think, it's the one the CIA like so much..
Well then they just observe the rats.. or mice..
This is the low point in the story..
Slowly but surely, the scientists notice the mice figuring it out.. they learn one water container will always have regular.. and the other will always have a drugged option..
And then.. the scientists note that all mice only drink from the drugged water.. like one hundred percent.. they are getting wasted, not even drinking the plain water as a chaser..
I mean, the plain water never needs replacing, no customers!!
I know Reader.. I know..
So many scientists took this as proof of their beliefs.. they say stuff like, look.. it's in our nature to get trashed.. and people are kinda inherently bad and drawn to doing drugs.. thems the facts..
Luckily, there were other scientists..
A couple of the guys, who just can't believe it's in our nature to want drugs.. they take it upon themselves to give the experiment a redesign!!
They build paths, and activity rooms, they had areas to explore and things to do.. they could run on those little wheels, and be social.. they open up the jail of a cage, and give the mice many many options!!
There are open areas with toys and just.. stuff to really blow their little mice minds..
They keep monitoring the mice..
With all the new options, and different areas.. it's hard for the mice to enjoy all there is offered, by being high..
They become much more social, they get more active!! And slowly but surely, the scientists see the drugged water being abandoned.. a complete 180..
One hundred percent of the mice, start drinking only the plain water again..
I really hope you enjoyed this true story, and I hope it helps you understand addiction better!!
It may make you wonder, how come nobody has made lots of activity rooms and fun for us humans??
