Straight to business, this might be a long talk and I don’t want to waste either of our time. I should mention I’m starting these new “End Of Discussion” posts as a way to give you the correct understanding, with all the facts you need! So you can, not stress, if you hear these topics being brought up in the future!
So, you’ve probably heard some saying after the election, that the Democrats must accept some of the responsibility of losing, maybe you wondered, is there any truth to such a sentiment? Without understanding it fully, it could cause irritation.
First, lets talk about the sides. Democrat and Republican are words used to describe the political sides. Some people also use, Liberal and Conservative.
Now if we look at history, what we can infer is that Republicans want to empower industry and see business leaders or people they deem successful as being more important than a single person. At times this even means to try to limit and hinder individuals and their choices.
Democrats traditionally are the class of the working people, not the business the people work for. That difference is important! That difference means that even if you have no job or are just living your life, Democrats want you to have rights and freedom.
This means when Republicans are in power, they make laws that tend to benefit businesses and businessmen. They can remove restrictions or oversight in an effort to help that business expand faster, but perhaps at the risk of individuals. They may even remove protections long established for individuals, such as the right to choose. To be fair both sides may push changes that seem to benefit the opposite side, especially nearing an election.
When Democrats are in power, traditionally they add more jobs, and help workers get better treatment by empowering unions and protecting the rights of the workers. Making it harder to be fired or punish you at your job.
If you ask me, someone who does not want to have more wealth than another or power over another, I would say Democrats are the easy choice.
Most people while in poverty and before becoming rich would identify with Democrats, and if the person lacks a moral compass such as being corrupted by power or wealth, they may later decide to side with Republicans. Doing so may grant them benefits in business.
It is true, a small percent of the population simply claim the word their family claims. It is less about policies or understandings of the inner workings, and more about loyalty to a team. Similar to watching sports.
Politicians may identify as the most liked label or group for an area, while holding opposing beliefs, similar to spies. They know one label will grant them power, and when holding that power they can enact bills or assistance to the causes they truly support.
In such a way, calling a person a Democrat or Republican seems useless.
If you want to judge, watch their actions and policies!
Now, the question is, are Democrats to blame for Trump winning?
Let’s get the obvious parts out of the way, the opposing party does not traditionally empower the enemy. Meaning they did not pay for his ads and were readily empowering a separate choice.
What people mean, when they say it is the Democrats fault, is that the party of the people, was not preaching the truth to our system being broken.
If you need proof that our system is broken, maybe do a search for the innocence project. It can be very true that everyday Americans are not given a fair shake. Meaning when they go to court, if they are upset, as most rightfully are, they may receive an unjust verdict. This can also mean, others who are found to be doing the same behaviors may never be held accountable.
The legal side is not the only place that our system seems rigged. It also seems workplaces can be less inviting for some. It seems healthcare can let you down with little notice as well. It seems wages may not rise with our productivity or rising costs. It may seem that even working multiple jobs may not provide adequate funds to live in the area and provide for your family.
Now let’s talk about the fence..
You see in politics, it is popular to be “on the fence”. This means even if you have the people’s interests at heart, or the industry and business interests at heart, to become elected into power, you may need all the votes you can get.
In this way, even if you knew you would try to help people or businesses as much as you could, you may be afraid to say it outright. When speaking or giving interviews, you may try to stay “on the fence” or not alienate any group who may believe, perhaps incorrectly, that you could have their interests at heart!
Both sides may employ this tactic. Democrats may be afraid to say they will empower the people in highly industrial areas. (Tho I for one can’t understand why, after all there are always more workers than board members in a business, and far more people than businesses in America!)
Republicans may be afraid to say they will empower the businesses in areas where the vote of individuals may be the swaying factor. (Or just to avoid the appearance of a moral void.)
So neither side really wants to tell the whole truth, in this way both sides start to look eerily similar. You may think this charade is not needed. Did you know though, roughly half the population does not vote?
The safe money says those voters would vote Democrat as they live to enjoy themselves and see voting as an oppression. That means non voters generally would want more individual rights. It is much more likely that Republicans would not miss an opportunity to vote because they wish to hold power over others. They enjoy being able to give huge bonuses to a select few while paying everyday working Americans the bare minimum. So unless their lives are threatened, half the population would not even be inclined to vote.
This means that the fence, is a very popular spot indeed! Republicans do not want to alienate individuals and Democrats do not want to alienate those who love to vote.
In a perfect world neither would ever use talking points from the opposition. To lie would be immoral and obvious after elections, but also, neither want the things that the enemy wants. Democrats do not want businesses to have power over the people, and Republicans do not want individuals to have power over businesses.
Up until recently however, neither party would readily admit that our system was broken. Either by lack of awareness or pride or even to seem professional and never break from tradition, but neither side wanted to talk bad about the system they were supposed to be fighting to control.
It is important to note as well, “Broken” has different meanings to both sides, but they both think the system is broken.
In my opinion..
Democrats think it is not nearly as supportive of individuals and helping them get fulfillment. Republicans think that it is not nearly as oppressive of the individual as it should be, that pushing fulfillment away makes more productive workers.
It gets even stranger if you find that a great many Republicans claim to follow the Bible and Jesus, who never once preached oppressing people to help them reach their full potential! If anything, Jesus preached that oppressing people is wrong, and the powers that be did not want him spreading such an understanding, so he died proving that loving one another was just that important of a message, but I digress.
So both want the system to work differently. Until lately though, changes were slow, and going through the proper channels meant sometimes very little got done. Democrats could not bring the goal closer to you, and Republicans could not put the goal further out of reach. The “goal” being, rights, freedom, and fulfillment.
I should also state that my opinion is based on the understanding that oppressing humans is wrong. Republicans believe if you empower the rich that the whole population will benefit. Some call that, “trickle down economics” and some believe it is already disproved. This means people who preach empowering the wealthy, either choose not to see, or use such an argument as an excuse to still want to empower the wealthy more.
To me, only the Democrats have a viable path to progress. Empowering the individual is what is needed even if it could hinder businesses, though there is no evidence to suggest it would. Now it may be important to note; would empowering the individual hinder spoiled businesses that have enjoyed power over the individual? Perhaps.
Healthy businesses however that wish for no power over the individual, and instead stand on product or merit, cannot be hindered by individuals having rights and freedom to choose.
So back to our previous election..
In this election something different happened. It would appear the republican party was overthrown. Those in power over it, had no fear that adopting talking points of the democratic party would lose voters in their base.
There is a popular saying when describing democrat and republican followers. It is said that democrats fall in love, and republicans fall in line.
This sentiment seemed undeniably true this time. As those in seats of wealth and power would not ordinarily support a candidate that claims the systems that got them into power, were flawed. While the republican candidate claimed he would lessen the power of the wealthy, the voting base never wavered.
So while the republican candidate used talking points of the democrats, like ‘wanting to do more for the individual’ or that ‘the system was broken’, instead of losing his base he absorbed so many who may have been conspiracy theorists or just fed up with the way things are, the democrats refused to abandon their pride and admit our system has flaws.
To their credit they did try to shed light on the fact that republicans see it broken in the wrong direction, that republicans would fight to regress our progress and would not progress us all as the democrats wanted, as individuals. For democrats holding on to their pride seems to be their downfall. To not see that the suffering people were a majority, and just to stand up straight and admit the system was rigged, caused democrats to lose voters.
It seems now that most people understand those talking points coming from the republican side, would amount to lies, but it seems too late.
So while the Democrats never encouraged a felon to run, and did support a capable candidate, it can also be said that they do bear some of the responsibility that the two parties looked so similar. They never threw caution to the wind and expressed awareness in the system being broken which could have made all the difference since the race was so close.
So yes, it is understandable that Democrats should feel something negative, it is also very true that none of their faults came anywhere close to the faults of the Republicans. For some Democrats, it is as simple as being taught to not throw your system under the bus, even if it is at fault. Loyal and professional, but not honest.
I hope you enjoyed my opinion and I hope it brings you clarity and calm. For what it is worth, I do not see the problems being imposed by the Republicans as leaving room for small talk. I do not see where people might find the time to shame Democrats, but now you know what those people mean!
I’d love to know what next topic you’d like me to cover! Leave comments or DM me!
And I hope for my readers at least, we can put this topic to rest!

Ha thanks! I take it you enjoyed the read!
Both sides-ism?
Am I frustrated? Do I wish things were going back to “normal” (however that’s defined)- hell, I’d settle for not criminal and cruel- YES! And YES!
But for 4 decades I’ve watched Democrats win the White House and have to clean up after Republican spend-like-there’s-no-tomorrow, snatch back hard-earned rights from the most vulnerable, “privatize” (Republican for how can WE make a buck offa this?)…
Is the Democratic Party perfect? Of course not. But they can legislate and chew gum at the same time. Of course, in their defense, Republicans have zero interest in legislating. “Just don’t primary me, OK??” 😬✌🏼
